Private Jet Dubai: Every Major FBO Ranked, from DXB to Al Maktoum (DWC)

If you're flying private out of the United Arab Emirates, you have a choice most travellers don't realise they have. You can choose your airport. You can choose your terminal. You can even choose your handler. Each choice changes the experience.

This is a working guide to the four major airports that serve private aviation in the UAE. We rank them from most popular to most niche. We tell you what each does well and where each falls short — because the "right" airport depends entirely on what you're trying to do.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) — the flagship

DXB is the busiest airport in the Middle East and one of the busiest in the world. Most travellers know it for Emirates and the giant terminals on the commercial side. The private aviation experience is completely separate.

The dedicated VIP terminal sits on the south side of the airport, run by Jet Aviation under a long-standing agreement. The drive in is private. Parking is curbside. The walk from car to aircraft is around 90 seconds.

The advantages of DXB are real. Slot availability is excellent. The runway is long enough for any aircraft on the planet. Customs and immigration are handled in a private lounge with no queue. If your business is in central Dubai or Downtown, you're around 20 minutes from your meeting.

The disadvantage is traffic. DXB is busy. Departure slots can shift by 10–15 minutes during peak hours. If you have an exact wheels-up time and a tight connection at the other end, this can matter.

We rate DXB as the right choice for most clients flying business or leisure into central Dubai. It's the default for a reason. Our /dubai page lists the specific FBOs at this airport and what each offers.

Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) — the newer alternative

DWC sits about 30 minutes south of central Dubai near Jebel Ali. The airport opened in 2010 and was designed from the start with private aviation in mind.

DWC is the home of three excellent fixed-base operators:

  • DC Aviation operates a dedicated VIP terminal with a helipad on the roof for transfers
  • Jetex Flight Support has a flagship FBO that includes a prayer room, a private gym, and a spa
  • ExecuJet runs a third option with full hangar storage and aircraft management services on site

The advantages of DWC are speed and exclusivity. Slot availability is essentially unlimited. There are no commercial delays. The terminals feel quieter and more discreet because the volume is lower. Customs is handled inside the FBO and takes minutes.

The disadvantage is the drive. If your meeting is in central Dubai, you'll spend an extra 25 minutes on the road. For leisure travellers heading to The Palm or Atlantis or a beach club, this isn't a real issue. For a business meeting in Downtown, it adds up.

We rate DWC as the right choice for clients with flexible ground time and for anyone who values discretion above all else.

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) — the capital choice

AUH is around an hour and 10 minutes south of central Dubai. It's the home of Royal Jet, the official charter operator of the UAE government and royal court.

The Royal Jet FBO is in its own category. The terminal is decorated to a hospitality standard that exceeds most five-star hotels. The lounge has a curated art collection. There's a children's play area and a private prayer room. Diplomatic protocol is offered as standard for clients who qualify.

The advantages of AUH go beyond the terminal. The airport is calmer than DXB. Slot availability is excellent. The runway handles ultra-long-range jets without restriction. For travellers heading to Yas Island or Saadiyat Island, AUH is much closer than either Dubai airport.

The disadvantage for Dubai-based clients is the drive — an hour and 10 minutes isn't nothing. For some flights it cancels out the time saved by flying private in the first place.

We rate AUH as the right choice for clients who live in Abu Dhabi or are heading to Yas Island, for any flight requiring diplomatic protocol, and for ultra-long-range departures where slot flexibility matters most.

Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) — the hidden gem

SHJ sits between Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Most international travellers don't know SHJ has a small but capable private aviation operation.

The handler at SHJ is Gulf Aviation Services. The terminal is small. The customs and immigration team is friendly and fast. There's no spa, no gym, and no celebrity wallpaper. What there is instead is speed.

The advantages of SHJ are simple. Slots are available. Costs are typically 20% lower than equivalent service at DXB. The drive into Dubai is around 40 minutes — not far off DWC. The airport is essentially zero-stress.

The disadvantage is fit. SHJ doesn't have a runway long enough for ultra-long-range jets. If you're flying a Global 7500 or G650ER, you won't be departing from SHJ. The runway suits everything from Light through Heavy cabins.

We rate SHJ as the right choice for cost-conscious clients flying a midsize or super-mid jet on a regional trip. The savings can be material and the experience is friendly and quick.

How to actually choose

Three questions decide which airport is right for you.

1. The aircraft. If you're flying ultra-long-range, you have two choices: DXB or AUH. The runways at DWC and SHJ work for everything else.

2. The destination on the ground. If you're heading to central Dubai, DXB wins on time. If you're heading to The Palm, Jebel Ali, or a beach club, DWC wins. If you're heading to Yas Island or Saadiyat, AUH wins. If cost matters more than speed, SHJ is the option.

3. The experience. If you want maximum discretion, DWC and AUH win. If you want speed and don't mind some background traffic, DXB wins. If you want a friendly experience without the celebrity treatment, SHJ is the right call.

There's no single best answer. We help every client think through these three questions before we book.

What this looks like in practice

We hold standing accounts at every FBO across all four airports. Limousine to aircraft is typically under 90 seconds at any of them. Customs is handled inside the FBO at every location. Halal catering is the default for any flight departing the UAE.

If you want to see what your specific trip would look like, our quote tool lets you select the departure airport directly — we then match you to the right operator and tail number for the trip you're planning.

If you haven't flown private from the UAE before, our experience page walks you through the full curbside-to-cruise choreography. The detail will help you choose where to depart from on your first flight.

For one-way deals out of the UAE specifically, our empty-leg board regularly lists discounted positioning flights from DXB, DWC, and AUH. We've also written about how the empty-leg market actually works if you want to understand why those prices exist.

The right airport is a small choice that makes a big difference. Most travellers default to DXB without thinking about it. The travellers who think about it almost always end up choosing differently.
